Five of Pentacles, from the 1909 Rider-Waite-Smith deck: two poor figures, one on crutches, trudge through the snow past a lit church window with five pentacles in the stained glass.

Five of Pentacles

Pentacles, V · Earth

Five of Pentacles means hardship and feeling left out in the cold, often around money, while help is closer than it feels. Reversed, the worst is easing as a bill gets sorted or you finally make the call you avoided.

Five of Pentacles upright

I'm going to be honest with you, because this card is hard. This is the energy of being on the outside. Walking past a lit window on a cold night with the bills still on the counter at home. Some of you are carrying real financial strain right now and I'm not going to dress that up. What the cards are also showing me is that help is closer than it feels. What keeps people out in the cold is usually pride, or not knowing they're allowed to knock.

Five of Pentacles reversed

Reversed, the worst of it is easing. A bill gets sorted, or you make the call you've been avoiding. Recovery here is slow and ordinary and it counts.

In love

One or both of you may feel unloved or unsupported, even sleeping in the same bed. Say the thing you're ashamed to need. That's the whole card.

In work and money

Money that's tight, or a long gap between what you earn and what things cost. Look for the practical door. A payment plan, or the conversation with your boss you've been putting off.

As advice

Knock on the door you have been walking past. Ask about a payment plan, call the friend, or accept the help on offer without shame.

Yes or no?

No, this card points to a hard season, though help is nearby if you let yourself ask for it. A single card shows a lean, never a promise of how things turn out.

For yourself

Feeling like you're not enough, especially around money or your body, is a wound a lot of people carry and almost nobody says out loud. You're going through something. That's different from being punished, and I need you to hear the difference.
