Asking a question of the stars
Horary astrology: a chart drawn for the moment a question is asked.
A chart for a question
Horary astrology draws a chart for the moment a sincere question is asked, the way a birth chart is drawn for the moment a person arrives. The chart is read as the birth of the question.
The old way used only the sky at that moment. The 1927 book added its own twist. It drew the houses for the moment of the question, then placed the person's own birth planets inside it, so two people asking at the same minute would still get answers about their own lives.
How it was read
The book looked first at where Saturn fell, because Saturn shows where the worry is. Jupiter showed where help and good fortune could come from. Uranus pointed to surprises, and Neptune to things that are not what they seem.
It said a question asked out of idle curiosity gives an empty chart. When nothing much is pending, go back to the birth chart instead.
It also wondered which moment counts: when the idea first came to you, or when you asked. Its answer was to read both, if you know them.
Sit with this
This is very close to how I come to the cards. A sincere question opens the energy. A casual one rarely does.
Whatever the chart or the cards show, I can never tell you what to do. I can only tell you what I see.
