The World, from the 1909 Rider-Waite-Smith deck: a dancing figure wrapped in a violet sash floats inside a laurel wreath tied with red ribbons, a wand in each hand, with an angel, an eagle, a bull and a lion in the four corners.

The World

Major Arcana, XXI · Earth

The World means completion and fulfillment, a long cycle finishing properly and a goal reached, with a new chapter ahead. Reversed, it shows something almost done, held back by a loose end or a final step you keep putting off.

You did it. Whatever this was, it's complete, and now you get to step into something new.

  • completion
  • mastery
  • fulfillment
  • full circle
  • karmic cycles
  • a new chapter

From Rosemary's own notes on the card.

The World upright

Something that took a long time is finishing properly. She's dancing inside the wreath with a wand in each hand, and the four figures in the corners are the same four from the Wheel of Fortune, because this is where that wheel was going. The World is completion, mastery, fulfillment, life coming full circle, accomplishing goals, finishing karmic cycles, mastering an important soul lesson. I always feel it when it comes up, like the room lets its breath out. Evolution, growth, stepping into a new chapter after completing an important cycle.

The World reversed

Almost finished, and you keep stopping short of the last step. The cycle's still open, a loose end is holding the completion back, or you're carrying an old lesson into the new chapter with you. Close it properly. The world opens up after.

In love

A relationship coming full circle, or a cycle in your love life completing. If you've done the work, the energy here is fulfillment, and it feels like it.

In work and money

Goals accomplished, a project finished, a cycle of effort paying off. Finish it all the way, then let yourself feel it before you start the next one.

As advice

Finish the last step properly, then pause to feel what you accomplished before you start the next thing.

Yes or no?

Yes, because The World signals completion and success, the end of a cycle with a goal reached. A single card shows a lean, never a promise of how things turn out.

For yourself

You've mastered a soul lesson, and I don't say that lightly. Life came full circle and you're standing on the other side of it.
