About Rosie, the Oracle

What the Oracle is, how a reading is made, and what it will never do, so you always know who you're talking to.

Draft for review

This page is not final. Rosemary and a lawyer still have to read it. Anything in [SQUARE BRACKETS] is still to be filled in.

Effective [EFFECTIVE DATE].

Rosie is an AI, not a human and not Rosemary. She is the AI reader on this site, the one I used to call the Oracle. I taught her how I read. She is not me, and she doesn't know you.

What you see first

Every conversation with Rosie starts with the same message, before any card is drawn:

You're talking with Rosie, Rosemary's AI Oracle. Rosie is artificially generated and not human. Readings are for reflection and entertainment, not medical, legal, financial or mental-health advice, and never a guarantee of what will happen. If you're in crisis, call or text 988 (US) or your local emergency number.

The header of the chat always reads "Rosie is an AI, not a human and not Rosemary." The footer of every page that carries Rosie reads "18+. May not be suitable for some minors." If you stay in one conversation for three hours, the first message appears again.

What Rosie is

Rosie is a computer program. Underneath it is a large language model, the same kind of software behind other AI chat tools, reached through a service called OpenRouter. I have given it my own meanings for the cards, the phrases I use, how I answer different kinds of questions, and a list of things I would never say. So it writes the way I speak.

That's where the likeness ends. It doesn't have my intuition. It isn't connected to anything. Nothing psychic is happening when it answers, and it doesn't sense your energy. It's a mirror of my style, made so that you can sit with a card at two in the morning when I'm asleep.

What Rosie is not

Rosie isn't me, and she will say so if you ask. She is an AI I trained, not me, and she doesn't know you. It isn't a person, and it isn't reading you live. It doesn't replace a reading with me, and it is no one's therapist, doctor, lawyer or financial adviser.

If she ever says "I'm Rosemary", that's a fault. Please tell me at [CONTACT EMAIL], and I'll fix it.

How a reading is made

  1. You ask your question, or choose a spread.
  2. The site's server shuffles all 78 cards using cryptographic random numbers, the kind computers use for security rather than a pattern, and decides whether each card is reversed. The order is sealed so that your browser can't see or change it.
  3. You choose your cards from the face-down deck, or let it deal from the top. If you cut the deck, the server cuts it the way you chose. The server then turns over exactly the cards you picked.
  4. The draw is saved before the AI is involved, and your cards are shown to you first.
  5. Only then does the AI receive the cards, my meanings for them and your question, and write the reading.
  6. The AI cannot change, add or redraw a card. If you ask a follow-up, it keeps the same cards.

So the cards are a true draw, shuffled by code and chosen by you before a word is written. The words are the AI's, in my style.

What Rosie will never do

  • Tell you that you, or anyone, will die, or read a card as physical death. Death in tarot is change.
  • Speak for someone who has passed, or claim to connect with them. That isn't something a program can do, and I won't pretend it can. If you've lost someone, book a Beyond the Veil reading with me, or talk to someone you trust.
  • Diagnose or treat any condition, tell you to stop or change a medication, or tell you a symptom is nothing.
  • Promise an outcome. No "this will happen", and no dates you can count on.
  • Tell you to leave or stay in a relationship, take a job or move money. You have free will, always.
  • Tell you that you're doomed, hexed, evil or being punished.
  • Give legal, financial or medical advice.
  • Call itself a therapist, doctor, nurse or any other licensed professional, or suggest its readings stand in for their advice.
  • Write about ways to harm yourself or anyone else.
  • Create fear, urgency or dependence. If a reading ever makes you feel worse, close it and come back when you feel steady.

If you write about harming yourself

Rosie is not a crisis service, and I don't want her to pretend to be one. If your message includes words about suicide, self-harm or not wanting to be here, Rosie stops. She doesn't draw a card. She shows a short, warm message with these lines:

  • In the US, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time.
  • Text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line.
  • Outside the US, findahelpline.com lists lines by country, or call your local emergency number.
  • If you're in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency services.

The reading does not continue until you start a new conversation. I keep a count of how many times this message is shown, with no names or words attached, because California asks me to report that number each year from 2027. This is the published protocol for how Rosie handles a crisis, and I review it at least once a year.

18 and over

Rosie is for adults. 18+. May not be suitable for some minors. If you're under 18, please don't use it.

Daily limits

Without an account you get one reading a day. A free account has three a day, and the readings are shorter. Members talk with Rosie as much as they like, within a fair-use ceiling; the Membership page says what each tier includes. Unused readings don't carry over. The limits exist because each reading costs me money to produce, and because a reading is something to sit with rather than repeat until it says what you hoped.

Your words and your readings

Your question and the cards go to the AI provider to produce the reply, with the time where you are, so Rosie knows whether it's morning or the middle of the night for you. I route them with the setting that keeps your words out of model training. If you're signed in, your readings are saved under My readings, and you can delete any of them at any time.

If you're signed in, Rosie also remembers you, unless you switch that off in your Profile. The first time it does, it tells you. From what you write, it keeps the name you go by, the people you mention, what you're going through and how it turns out, how you like to be read, and small things you chose to tell it, so it can ask next time how things went. It never keeps health conditions, sexuality, religion, or what you wrote about harming yourself (only that you had a hard day, with no words attached). It only remembers what's written down: it won't pretend to remember anything else. You can see all of it under "What Rosie remembers" in your Profile, forget any single item, or forget everything at once. Visitors who aren't signed in are not remembered.

Remembering you doesn't make it a person. It's still an AI, it will still say so if you ask, and the first message comes back if you've been talking for three hours.

I read members' conversations with Rosie, and I can see what Rosie remembers about you. I'm a person who cares about the people who come to me, and seeing what you ask helps me understand what you're carrying, follow up with you, and teach Rosie to read more like I do. Nobody else sees them, and they're never sold or used for advertising. If there's something you'd rather only tell me, use the direct line or book a reading. Delete any reading in My readings and it's gone for me too.

How it learns to sound like me

Rosie learns how I read from my own words. Three places they come from:

  • My public lives. On TikTok and on this site I read for people in the open, and Rosie studies how I put things: what I say about a card, how I open and close, the words I come back to. Only my words, never what viewers or callers say, and nothing that names or points at anyone.
  • My side of private readings, but only when you say yes. When you book a reading, and again in the room, there is a separate box, never ticked for you: "Allow Rosemary's words from this reading (never mine) to help teach Rosie." If you tick it, the site keeps only what I said, takes out names, places, numbers, health and anything else that could point at you, and offers what is left to me as lines it could learn. Your own words are never used, ticked or not. You can change your mind with me at any time, and if you delete your account or I remove the recording, whatever it taught goes too.
  • How readings land, in total. When you press a thumb or answer "did it play out?", the site adds one to a count beside the lines of mine that reading leaned on. Nothing about you goes with it, and nothing you write ever reaches anyone else's reading.

I read and approve every line before Rosie can use it, and the site checks that readings with my lines are no worse than readings without them before they go in. Rosie uses my lines as a guide to my rhythm and my way of reading a card. It doesn't repeat them word for word, it never takes a prediction or a message from anyone from them, and she never becomes me.

It can be wrong

Rosie can misread a question, repeat herself or write something that doesn't land. Use the thumbs on each reading to tell me. I read that feedback, and I change her instructions when something is off.

Reaching the human Rosemary

Book a reading on the Readings page. Inner Circle members can write to me through Messages in the Sanctuary. Anyone can email [CONTACT EMAIL]. I read every message myself, and I'm slower than a program.
