How the Oracle handles a crisis
If you're hurting, the Oracle stops and points you to people who can help. This is exactly what happens.
If you write about harming yourself
Rosie is not a crisis service, and I don't want her to pretend to be one. If your message includes words about suicide, self-harm or not wanting to be here, Rosie stops. She doesn't draw a card. She shows a short, warm message with these lines:
- In the US, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time.
- Text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line.
- Outside the US, findahelpline.com lists lines by country, or call your local emergency number.
- If you're in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency services.
The reading does not continue until you start a new conversation. I keep a count of how many times this message is shown, with no names or words attached, because California asks me to report that number each year from 2027. This is the published protocol for how Rosie handles a crisis, and I review it at least once a year.
18 and over
Rosie is for adults. 18+. May not be suitable for some minors. If you're under 18, please don't use it.
The whole of how Rosie works, and what she will never do, is on About Rosie.
